Student Impersonates Emir to Defraud N1.8M
A 20-year-old understudy, Sultan Bello, was on Wednesday
remanded in jail care by a Kano Senior Magistrates' Court for mimicking the
Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
The suspect, who dwells at Ja'oji New Court Road Quarters,
Kano, is confronting three checks of impersonation, fraud and defamation of
character.
The Senior Magistrate, Hassan Ahmad, requested the remand of
the defendant and dismissed the case until March 26 for outline trial.
The suspect had confessed guilty to the charge.
Prior to the case, the prosecutor, Inspector Haziel Ledapwa,
informed the court that the defendant perpetrated the offences on February 27.
Ledapwa said the litigant worked through an Instagram page
and suspiciously posted himself as the Emir of Kano.
"The suspect additionally requested N1.4m from one
Barka Sani; N150,000 from Sadiq Saflan; N50,000 from Sadiq Sani; N50,000 from
Aisha Ahmad; N50,000 from Surajo Zakari; and N150,000 from Yahaya, totaling
N1.85m.
He likewise told the court that the defendant requested the
cash on the appearance on the insinuation that a female Hausa film on-screen
character, Zubaida Mu'azu, sang a record for him as the Emir of Kano.
"The defendant asked for the plaintiffs to pay the said
sum into the on-screen character's First Bank account number 3049986447,"
As indicated by the Prosecutor, the offenses breached
sections 132, 322 and 392 of the Penal Laws.
