Woman Pleads Guilty to 14 Separate Felony Sex Charges, Avoids Prison
Kayla D. Stewart, 23-year-old woman from Sparta, Missouri, avoided
spending time in prison after a circuit judge suspended the prison
sentence.
Stewart,
who was accused of having sexual relations with a 15-year-old boy on
multiple occasions, pleaded guilty in August to nine counts of statutory
rape and five counts of statutory sodomy at an Aug. 2 hearing in
Christian County. Circuit Judge Mark Orr sentenced Stewart to seven
years in prison for each of her 14 felony convictions. The sentences
would have run concurrently. However, Orr granted Stewart a suspended
imposition of sentence.
Instead of spending
time in prison, Stewart will serve five years of supervised probation
and will have to register as a Missouri sex offender. She is not to have
any contact with the victim or his family, nor is she allowed to have
any contact with children under the age of 18 other than her own.
The
male victim told police that he and Kayla Stewart had sexual relations
several times between Aug. 12 and Oct. 6 2012. According to probable
cause statement, the boy told interviewers of sexual encounters between
him and Stewart inside his home, in the driveway of his home in a pickup
bed, at Stewart’s home and in Stewart’s car. Police collected some
physical evidence that backed up the boy’s story, including a used
condom wrapped in a job application with some information about Stewart
written on it..
Sparta is a small city in Christian County, Missouri with population only 1,756 at the 2010 census.
