Traders foil kidnap of 1-year-old twins in Aba

Vigilant traders at the Afor Ule market, Abayi in Aba, Abia State have foiled attempt by a young woman to abduct one-year-old twin boys of her former co-tenant.

It was gathered that the suspect, identified as Chioma, had visited her former residence sometime last week on the pretext that she came to exchange pleasantries with the tenants.
One of the tenants and mother of the twins, Mrs. Okwudili Nwaeze apparently suspecting the visit and suspended going to take her bath and stayed with her babies.

However, when it appeared to Mrs. Nwaeze that Chioma had left, she went for her bath, leaving her twins, James and John, inside their room not knowing that her former co-tenant was still in the compound.
A source close to the Nwaeze family told Daily Sun that when the woman returned to her room after her bath, she discovered that her babies had disappeared and she raised the alarm.
It was while trying to flag down a commercial vehicle at the Afor Ule Junction that some traders at the market, who saw Chioma with two babies and suspecting that she could not be the mother of the babies accosted her.

The traders, who later discovered that Chioma had abducted the babies from their rightful mother, alerted the police.
When contacted, the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Geoffrey Ogbonna, said he was yet to be informed of the incident.

However, a senior police officer, who did not want his name in print, confirmed the incident but said police were still investigating the matter, adding that the suspect would be charged to court at the end of the investigation.
